Best & Worst Dry Shampoos

Love having the voluminous “I just blow dried my” hair look, but hate washing it daily? Yea, me too.

A few years ago I started using dry shampoo between washes and it’s seriously the best! At this point it’s a beauty must-have for me. A few sprays of the powdery goodness and your hair is transformed into smelling divine and looking like you have a fresh blow dry! Of the ones I’ve found available in the US, I have to save Suave Dry Shampoo is a front runner. It’s insanely cheap– around $3 a bottle– smells good, and doesn’t come out too thick. I have tried several different brands from $3-$40 and none have really out done Suave.  Another great option is Klorane ECO Gentle Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk which has a subtle scent and leaves hair voluminous without any powdery residue. For my readers in old Blighty my favorite dry shampoo is from my old London Salon– James Brown Hair Reviving Dry Shampoo. It’s the first dry shampoo I ever used, and to this day an absolute favorite. Unfortunately as it’s an aerosol I’m unable to have it shipped to me in the US, so must wait for friends to visit and bring me care packages. Anyway, if you’re in the UK and looking for a dry shampoo– definitely give this one a go! Tresame Fresh Start Dry Shampoo is definitely the worst that I have tried as it was too chalky and left my hair greasy, sticky, and flat. Horrible. The exact OPPOSITE of what it should be doing. I gave it a second chance, and had the same outcome. The third & last chance that I attempted to give this spray didn’t even happen because the nozzle was backed up and it wouldn’t spray. That alone tells you how thick and cakey this stuff is. Note: A light hand is definitely key when applying dry shampoo. Hold the can away from your head atleast six inches and spray in a quick light motion. If you need more you can always re-apply. If you put too much your hair will look greasy and then you’ll need to wash it, completely missing the point of using dry shampoo in the first place. Colored versions are great for people with darker hair as many dry shampoos are white and can leave darker hair looking a bit gray.
